Dr. Reed Davis earned both a master's in cell and molecular biology and a doctorate in integrated bioscience from The University of Akron. After completing his bachelor's in biology at the University of Prince Edward Island, he earned his national and state EMT certifications and worked as a field training officer in the Akron/Canton area in Ohio for several years, gaining clinical experience in pre-hospital emergency medicine.

During graduate school, Davis earned his Fire and Emergency Services Instructor certification and volunteers with various local EMT programs to provide guest lectures on anatomy, physiology, pharmacology and cell biology. He further serves as a proctor for the psychomotor skills component of their licensing exam.

His current courses include Medical Case Studies, Human Anatomy and Physiology, and Clinical Gross Anatomy for both the biology and physician assistant programs, where students perform dissections in BW's cadaver lab.

Davis' interdisciplinary research focuses on skeletal biology and, previously, neurobiology. His master's work examined central nervous system regeneration in zebrafish following damage to the optic nerve. His doctoral and current research examines the effects of substance abuse (primarily opioids) on bone microstructure and working with forensic anthropologists to assess natural changes in the human skeleton with advancing age. To do this, Davis utilizes various methods including 3D imaging techniques (e.g., micro-computed tomography [micro-CT], confocal microscopy) and biomechanical testing.
